Elephant Texture Study

I wanted to improve new ways in approaching animal textures, so drew up some studies. I started off by drawing a super close up of a elephants skin pattern. This way I had a better understanding of how/where the skin folds and what patterns it creates. I then did another more detailed close up, this one gave me a better understanding of skin folds and detail work alongside how it affects colours with shadows and lighting. Once I had an understanding on how to approach the elephants skin texture, I did a quick 1 hour and 30 minute speed paint of a baby elephant.
